Another year

Well IntuitionSys.com is alive for one more year. I haven’t done squat regarding Intuition Systems (which is no longer a real business entity at least not in Canada) nor have I done any work on Silverwolf 3. The domain is alive for another year for now but unless I see any real need to continue the domain I may just let it expire and let some web monkey grab the domain and put up yet another one of those annoying generic search sites plastered with AdSense ads

As for Silverwolf 3, right now I have no personal need for a car PC so the encouragement to develop a viable linux frontend just isn’t there and I haven’t gotten much response about it anyway other than from the folks over at mp3car.com. All I can say is if I feel like it I’ll continue work on Silverwolf 3 otherwise I won’t. I still have all the original Silverwolf hardware so at least there’s that if I decide to start developing again. The hardware is still recent enough and powerful enough to be useful. Anyway I’m rambling now so adios for now…

Before I crack down and start coding a new Car PC frontend, I’d like to get a feel for how much interest there is, and comments on what you want to see in a frontend. I’ve been away from “the scene” for quite some time and you as the user likely know more about what’s important and what’s fluff. Should it be developed for multiple platforms? Just Linux? Just Windows?

With many of the new innovations like Phonon, KDE4, and other projects, a new frontend, especially a Linux-based one, can concentrate more on the user interface and less on multimedia integration. In any case, right now I’m fishing for comments, ideas, interest, whatever. If Silverwolf 3 is something you’d like to see, leave a comment. If you’re happy with what you’re using, I’d still like to know. Once things settle down for me I’ll be using any feedback I get from here to make a decision whether to continue or just not to bother.

So yay, nay, interested, not interested, happy, not happy with what you use now, or the few Silverwolf 2 users that may still be out there, all feedback is good feedback. Thanks!

Still Alive – for now

I still haven’t found the time to post any of the Silverwolf project info. Chances are I won’t until the project gets restarted. A lot of progress has been made on some of the libraries like Xine that Silverwolf made heavy use of, so if it gets ressurrected it may require several updates. After creating a couple of skins that almost everybody hated, I came to realize the only way to make skin development an undaunting task is to create a skin editor. So if Silverwolf 3 ever becomes a reality, I’ll probably start with that before anything else.

I’ve gained some experience with some other technologies while Silverwolf 2 has been simmering in no-man’s-land that I’d like to apply to Silverwolf 3 – again if it ever becomes a reality. I guess it will depend on two things; whether or not I want to do it for myself and how much interest there is in resurrecting the project. I’ll probably spend some times in some of the old hangouts and see if there is any interest before I get busy with anything.

That’s a very good question. For the last three months or so the domain has been in limbo waiting for a home on a server in the United States.

Intuition Systems was a Canadian company that has was dissolved in December of 2008 as the owner (me) moved back to the United States. The domain is still active so I’ve decided to keep it alive as a blog now that I’ve got some server space set up here in the US.

I’m not going anywhere and as time permits I’ll probably post some of the projects I was working on like Silverwolf 2.

Don’t hold your breath though. “As time permits” in all honestly means “when I have little else to do” which right now never happens.

Whether or not the Intuition Systems domain gets renewed when the time comes will depend on whether or not there is any interest. For now it’s a forum for like minded technical folks to post about whatever and leave comments, talk smack about the competition, the usual
